536 & 537 The Sea Creatures Are Fleeing

536. SOLD Fly

537. SOLDDolphins Flee

In the news today, I read that the sea creatures are now fleeing the Gulf oil spill area. It broke my heart many days ago to read of a death of a dolphin in the area..they weren't sure if it was the oil that caused the death, but to know that this disaster will forever change the area is real.

I am contributing these two 2.5 x 3.5 watercolor illustrations to the Ripple effort.

531 SOLD For the Love of Turtles

Bonnie Jean Woolger Decatur,Ga.

Wooden pen maker, printmaker, book maker, I grew up on the beach in south Florida and live in fear and horror of the oil spill. When I was 11 a sea turtle laid her eggs in our garden on the wrong side of A1A and so when they hatched I filled my pockets and my shirt and made many trips across the road to get the baby turtles on their way to the ocean before they could be hit by cars. I can’t save them from this.

514 SOLD First Swim

My name is Kagan Glenn and I am an artist and writer living in Salt Lake City, UT. I felt drawn to this project due to the fact that the effects of the Gulf Coast oil spill ripple outwards, reaching all of us. The Kemp's Ridley turtle in my illustration is the most endangered species of sea turtle in the world. The oil in the Gulf Coast could effectively push them to extinction. While creating this piece I tentatively titled it First Swim. I hope it helps to raise awareness and money for the clean up efforts that are so important in that area at this time.

497 & 498 Scenes from the Gulf

497. Under the Sea

498. SOLD Fishing Trip

Leann Webb is a compulsive doodler and part time cartoonist who grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She has a life-long love for the beach, especially the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. When the news of the explosion of the Deep Water Horizon oil well reached her, she was saddened, both for the families of the 11 men who lost their lives, as well as the knowledge of how life in and along the Gulf will never be the same.
The drawing reflects how everyone, both man and beast, is affected by this disaster. Not only is the sea life compromised but also is the livelihood of the people who live along the gulf.

"Under the Sea" is done in color pencil on paper. "Fishing Trip" is done in acrylic on 16"x 20" canvas of a father and son fishing on the beach at Gulf Shores, AL. Little did Leann know when she painted this that this familiar sight wasn't going to be so familiar for long.

493 SOLD Home of the Egrets

Living just an hour inland from the west coast for most of my life, I've often seen egrets and other seabirds fly in to our valley ahead of storms to take refuge. Fortunately, they're able to return to their beach homes as soon as the storm has passed. I wish those on the Gulf coast could be as fortunate, right now.

I'm hoping and praying that the sea birds and other creatures of the Gulf coast will be able to happily return to their own homes, made healthy again, in the near future. May these little ripples of donations help them to see that day.
