Julia Shahin Collard

Los Angeles-based artist Julia Collard has lived near an ocean her entire life. As an avid scuba diver, she has seen over the course of time the effects mankind has had on ocean life.

The oil spill is just devastating, and every little bit helps. That's why in addition to her ripple sketches, she will be donating the proceeds of all greeting card sales from her seascape series as well as 75% of all other net sales until the end of September:
http://julia-collard.artistwebsites.com/art/all/underwater+seascapes/all

You can learn more about her at her website: www.nomadicconcepts.com

Her ripple sketches were done using chalk pastel, oil pastel, & pencil, and finished to resist smudging.

Casey Girard
I want to celebrate the beautiful birds that live in the Gulf area. These are 5 of the less known birds that are being affected by the oil spill. It is so sorrowful that better care wasn't given to these animals before they needed emergency care. All animals of the earth are our legacy, I wished they could have been shown better respect.

This is my third time coming back with pieces. I wished I could do more. I want to see a better world for my son. He and all children deserve that.

We can all help, every little bit counts. By changing our own habits, all together we can make change.

christa marquez

I am a scratchboard illustrator in Williamsburg, VA. My studio is in the Historic Colonial Area. And I live in an original Colonial Williamsburg historic home built in 1753. Surrounded by tidewaters I love to kayak and view the numerous birds in the area. My furry companion Sky (a shetland sheepdog) accompanies me in my boat or on the trails and we enjoy the outdoors whenever the need hits us. I get a lot of my ideas from nature and always carry my sketchbook to record thoughts and images.

If selling a sketch card can help, then it is the absolute least I can do. Please allow me to help.

My sketch card is attached. I will also help to promote your campaign on my humble website, www.cdowd.com . Thank you for doing this it is a wonderful thing.

I guess I'd call this illustration wishful thinking. It breaks my heart to see the animals covered in oil so I cleaned them up for this one :(

I'm an artist from India and would like to congratulate all contributing artists here. I hope this ripple grows wider and faster to contain, at least part of the damage already done.

The 2 cartoons are a take on this week's IF theme and the 4 postcard sketches are of Least Tern - one of the many species of marine life to be adversely impacted by the oil spill. Prints of each card (6" x 4") is available for a $10 donation and will be delivered within 10 days by IndiaPost. Thank You!

a challenge more important

339.
Hello and greetings from Poland,
I have just realized that this week's IF topic is not a mere creative challenge but something much more important.
Although I'm not a professional illustrator, I love creating pictures for children (both young and quite grown up).
I would like to join with my 4"x6" acrylic postcard, if you find it appropriate in spite of having no ocean creature in it.

Kerry Schofield

I'm an English-born American artist and writer. I live in St. Petersburg, Florida just near the Gulf coast. I have lived here for the past 38 years, so Florida "is in my bones," so to say. I'm studying journalism and media communications at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.

The sketch was taken on the St. Petersburg Pier where many brown pelicans “hang out.” They’re so sweet. They look at you with their eyes. I feel so bad for them. Tourists feed them and they dive around the pier for fish and sit on the pier pilings.
