Joan Waites is the illustrator of over 45 children's books for the educational and trade markets. In addtiiton to freelancing, she is an adjunct faculty member at the Corcoran Museum School of Art and Design in Washington D.C., where she teaches various "Aspiring Artist" classes for children ages pre-K through middle school. She serves as the Illustraor Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic SCBWI, and is a member of the DC Children's Book Guild. The artist works from her home studio in the metro DC area with her husband and three children.
